Construction Freight, Delivered to Site
Steel, beams, framing packs, precast and building materials, delivered onto sites that were never designed for a truck. Crane trucks lift the load off where there is no forklift, flattops take the awkward stuff, and our team plans the access before the driver leaves.
Why construction deliveries go wrong
Construction freight almost never fails on the highway. It fails in the last fifty metres — at a site entrance the truck cannot use, with a load nobody can lift off, on a day the program has already moved. These are the six that come up most often, and the reason we ask a lot of questions before quoting.
Site access is the whole job
Half-built driveways, no hardstand, an excavator where the truck needs to sit, and a crane that was booked for something else. What can physically get in — and what can lift the load off — decides the vehicle long before tonnage does.
Materials are rarely pallet-shaped
Beams, trusses, purlins, reo, pipe, framing packs, precast panels and window units. Long, heavy, awkward and easy to damage. Standard freight networks price this badly or refuse it outright.
Nothing unloads itself
Most sites have no forklift on standby and no dock. Crane trucks and tail lifts turn an unloading problem into a five-minute job; sending the wrong truck turns it into a wasted delivery.
The program moves, so the delivery moves
A pour slips, a trade runs late, the slab is not ready. Freight booked a week ago now needs to land on a different day — or stay on the truck.
Multiple sites, one supplier
Builders and suppliers rarely have one delivery address. Runs across several sites in a day, plus cross-docking between supplier and project, keep the truck productive instead of doing one drop and going home.
Deliveries outside site hours
Council restrictions, CBD access windows and early starts mean the truck sometimes has to be there before the site officially opens — or well after it closes.
The DSE services that suit construction work
Builders and building-product suppliers usually run a standing arrangement for scheduled material deliveries, and keep taxi trucks in reserve for the day something has to be on site by lunchtime.
Taxi Trucks
A truck and driver on demand with no lock-in contract — the answer when a trade is waiting on materials and the delivery cannot wait for the next scheduled run.

For freight that is longer, higher or heavier than standard. Send dimensions and photos and our logistics team designs the load, the vehicle and the unloading method around it.
Learn more →Bulk Trucks
Multiple trucks delivering to multiple locations — material packages spread across several sites, coordinated as one job rather than a dozen separate bookings.

Fabricated steel, precast and manufactured building products moving between states, on tautliners and flattops, to every mainland capital plus regional destinations.

Crane trucks
8T to semi
8T carries up to 7m lengths, 12T up to 9m and a crane semi up to 13.5m. The load lifts itself off at a site with no plant available.
Flattops & drop-decks
Open decks, side-loadable
Tough, large or awkwardly sized loads with unrestricted access from three sides for fast, safe unloading.
Tautliners
Semi & B-double
Curtain-side loading, strong freight security and the highest strength-to-weight pallet ratio — 22–24 pallets on a semi, up to 34 on a B-double.
Rigids with tail lifts
4–14T, 6–16 pallets
Fixtures, fittings and packaged materials into tight suburban sites where a semi simply will not turn around.
*A guide only — there are many configurations of vehicle size, accessories and capacity. Browse the full DSE fleet, or send dimensions and photos and we will tell you what it needs.
Five things to tell us and the delivery stops being a gamble
None of this is bureaucracy. Every one of these changes which truck we allocate, and getting it right at booking is the difference between a ten-minute unload and a truck sitting on demurrage while somebody chases a forklift.
1. The longest and heaviest item
Length decides the vehicle far more often than weight does.
2. How it comes off
Forklift on site, crane booked, or nothing at all — this is what puts a crane truck or a tail lift on the job.
3. Site access
Entry width, overhead clearance, hardstand and whether a semi can turn around at all.
4. Your delivery window
Council restrictions, site inductions and CBD access hours all shape the run.
5. Where else it has to go
Several sites in one day is usually cheaper than several separate bookings.
Then we quote properly
Fixed-price jobs include an allowance for time at each pickup and delivery point. If a site holds the truck up, we tell you before the extra time is charged, not after.
Can you deliver materials longer than a standard pallet?
Yes. Our crane trucks handle up to 7m lengths on an 8 tonne, up to 9m on a 12 tonne and up to 13.5m on a crane semi, and our flattops are built for tough, large or awkwardly sized loads. Send us the dimensions, weights and photos and we will confirm the right vehicle before you book.
There is no forklift or crane on site. How do we unload?
DSE Transport runs a fleet with multiple tail lifts and cranes, and we can also manage hand load and unload. Give us all the information at booking so we match your job to the right truck and driver — an unloading method decided at the kerb is how deliveries fail.
Can you deliver to several of our sites in one day?
Yes. Dedicated hire means one driver completes one job at a time, and that job can be a single point-to-point movement or multiple pickups and deliveries across the day. Our partner network also includes a number of construction professionals, so we are well placed to help with cross-docking and delivery across all your sites.
Our delivery has to happen outside normal site hours. Can DSE help?
Yes. We will find a driver and truck able to complete the task, taking their working hours and fatigue into account so the job is completed safely and legally.
The program has slipped. Can you hold materials on the truck overnight?
The short answer is yes. We do need to know more about your freight first, so we can be sure we are doing it safely and securely for both you and our driver.
Do you deliver construction freight outside Sydney?
DSE Transport is headquartered in Sydney at Unit 7 / 103 Sargents Road, Minchinbury NSW 2770, with branches in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and interstate linehaul between all of them. All of our offices also cater for dedicated trucks into regional Australia.
